Welcome to Louisiana Master Naturalists' video channel.
LMNA CHANNEL is now showing our content worldwide! Check out what's showing today and perhaps consider making your own movies for our platform?
LMNA Channel
The Louisiana Master Naturalist Association now has our own YouTube™ Channel. LMNA Channel is an online TV channel and can be viewed by any connected device, from the smallest-screened phones, media players, pads and lap-tops to widescreen TVs anywhere around the World! The following information is guidance for our members and subject to changes made by service providers and some of it may be superseded by information sourced with greater authority, Google™ for example.
LMNA Channel is a non-commercial channel in keeping with our non-profit status. Currently there’s no charge for use, as the platform is advertiser funded. This means that in return for near limitless webspace and fast streaming of our content, some advertisements will appear in some of our videos. These are placed by Google™ automatically. Content that is identified as having been made primarily for children may be exempt from advertisement placement but cannot be added to Playlists. Most of our content will likely be intended for audiences of all ages.
Here follows our Content Rules. We must take care not to infringe the rights of others with our content, including and not limited to: human rights, rights of free speech and copyrights. As publishers we have a duty of care to our audience and to creative artists and other content providers. Our channel url is
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIOJHH3c0obfl5Goks2vgYQ
Video Content
Content should be ethical, legal in the USA and directly relate to naturalist activities or nature in Louisiana and be of an acceptable educational, aesthetic and production quality to be viewed without discomfort. It ought not to jeopardize the health, safety or comfort of its wildlife and human subjects. We don’t advocate summoning birds with calls in Spring-time or intrusive filming of birds on nests, interference of predators during hunting, or harassment of subjects.
Objectionable Content and Reputational Risk
Any content that is objectionable or even questionable will be temporarily unpublished at earliest convenience and then judged by a panel of LMNA peers with regard to its suitability for use on LMNA Channel. Their decision will be considered final and binding. This wouldn’t preclude a member from publishing the content elsewhere at their own recognizance. Just because something is already published on YouTube™ doesn’t mean that it conforms to the predominant normative sense of decency or is legally compliant. It takes time to throw stuff off the ‘net.
Each time any of us submits our own content we need to have a care for the reputation of our organization and compliance with the current law and fill in the information fields accurately. If minors appear in the movie at all you must have parental or legal guardian consent in a form that can be shared. If the Channel administrators have doubts about any content submitted to LMNA Channel they may remove it first and ask questions later to be on the safe side. Google may also challenge suitability of content at any time. If you see anything posted on any of our media that you consider to be illegal or objectionable, then please report it to Charles Paxton for suspension and a peer review.
Posting your movies
Any members who would like to post videos to LMNA channel should please contact Charles Paxton about it and tell him whether they wish: A) to email him urls of their recommended content to be added to new or existing playlists on LMNA Channel or B) be added as users to directly upload their own original content to LMNA Channel.
In option A: To post a movie to LMNA Channel on YouTube™ you need to have Internet access, an active Google account™ and sufficient time to upload your movie to your own channel, fill in the required information fields and then you can email Charles Paxton the URL for your movie to be added to one or more of our Playlists. This is our preferred means of showing your content on LMNA Channel.
Beginners please check this guidance from Google™ for more information: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1646861?hl=en
Creating your movies
Nowadays most phones and cameras can shoot video. Most computers come with video editing software pre-loaded, I personally use Cyberlink PowerDirector on Windows. If you want to make a commercial movie, the only video compression format that is currently royalty free is Mpeg2, provided that you remain in good standing. That is the standard for playing from consumer DVDs and memory sticks stuck into smart TVs. I think the other formats require permission and tiny royalty payments per viewed edition. Any commercial enterprise needs to be pre-arranged with the relevant organization. We’re a non-commercial channel anyway but if we ever wanted to produce a commercial film for DVD or Blu-Ray for fund-raising purposes, the issue of release format is worth bearing in mind.
Free music and sound effects for use in YouTube™ videos are available from Google’s Audio Library™. https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music?nv=1 They have a great range! Read the info about the terms of use for each song, as it varies. Credit the artists in your end credits please. Natural sounds and calls are abundant and free, of course. For more info about the audio library see https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3376882?hl=en
We can add movies made by other people to our playlists too, if they match content rules and comply with applicable State and Federal laws.
Adding Playlists
Also we can organize content into playlists, these are sequences of movies on a theme which will play one after another. I started us off with three playlists: Members’ Content, Outside In and Media Coverage. There is plenty of scope for more. Outside In is a series that shows outdoor scenes for people who are stuck indoors for some reason.
Members are also encouraged to suggest ideas for new Playlists, i.e. The Gulf Coast, Frog Calls, Species Recognition or Cajun Prairie etc. The possibilities are very exciting! Please ensure that all content is relevant and complies with applicable State and Federal laws.
