Louisiana Master Naturalist Annual Nature Photography Contest 2024
The LMNA welcomes all registered members of Rendezvous who wish, to please submit their best nature photo of the years 2023-2024 to our annual nature photography contest 2024. The prize certificates this year will be given either in person at our Rendezvous meeting at the Plenary Dinner or sent as digital files.
- The submission deadline will be March 15th, 2024. No images will be added to the albums after that date.
- Voting for your choices of images commences March 1, 2024. Please vote for just one image per category per class by giving it a 'like'. 'Love', 'wow', 'laughing', 'angry' emojis will not be counted as votes.
- The image in the category album with the most 'likes' wins. In case of a tie-break, joint winners will be declared.
- The voting deadline will be April 1st, 6 pm.
Submission Rules
- Entrants must be enrolled in the LMNA and be registered for Rendezvous 2024.
- Each photo must be nature-themed and must be your original work created in 2023 or 2024 in Louisiana.
- Photos must clearly suit one of the following categories: Naturalist, Wildlife, Habitat, Nature in Close-up, and Artistic. Minor post-production enhancement (HDR, sharpening, saturation, levels, etc.) is allowed in all categories, in the Artistic category you can alter the image very heavily if you wish, including AI alterations. AI can only be used in this category.
- Only one entry per photographer, per category, per class is allowed, please. There is a distinction between professional and amateur classes.
- Please remove any EXIF data that you do not wish to be included with the submitted picture, e.g. your name or GPS location information that you don't want to publish.
- Please email your entries with your name, photo title, class: amateur or professional, and category to the appropriate email address:
Emailed images will be placed for you in the appropriate album on the Rendezvous 2024 Facebook page.
Category-specific Rules:
- Nature in Close-up
- Technically a close-up image shows the subject larger than would be seen through one eye (or 50mm lens in 35mm format), i.e. tightly-cropped by either a telephoto or macro lens.
- Habitat
- Please send us pictures of recognizable natural Louisiana habitats, i.e. prairie, bottomland hardwood, etc. Feel free to include wildlife residents, but the main subject of the picture should be the habitat.
- Artistic
- Show us your artistic side. Photos should be nature-themed, have artistic merit and be taken in Louisiana.
- Naturalist
- This category should include any picture depicting people studying/enjoying nature. Please have the subject's permission, or use unidentifiable images.
- Wildlife
- Photos in this category should show Louisiana wildlife. The main subject should be one or more creatures.
- Submitting photos will grant LMNA and its chapters in perpetuity, non-exclusive right to use them freely to further our mission and they will be shared far and wide on the Internet and possibly in print, with or without credit and caption, possibly in altered form in instances like banners, merchandise etc. NB. They can only be shared more widely on Facebook after the contest winners have been decided, please.
- Photos uploaded to the Facebook competition albums must be no larger than 2MB.
- For use in LMNA publicity locally and globally, please can entrants send a larger version with author's surname, image title and caption as a JPEG to [email protected] . These will add to LMNA's growing library of nature images. Thank you very much!
Choose your favorite photo in each category!
- Registered members of Rendezvous may vote for their choice of best picture in each album category in the Facebook group by submitting a like (click the 'thumbs up' icon). Please only vote for your favorite picture in each album category.
Awards
Prize certificates will be awarded for the most popular images in each category. In the case of two entries in the same category winning an equal number of 'likes', they will each be awarded a certificate.
